Adele named songwriter of year at UK’s Ivor Novello Awards
The Ivor Novello’s PRS (Performing Rights Society) award for most performed work went to Bay for “Hold Back the River”, one of the singles from his multi-platinum debut album Chaos And The Calm. “I won it on my last album as well… but I was secretly pregnant, so I didn’t enjoy the night too well”, she said, reported the BBC. We said before it wouldn’t be before our time.

Ivor Novello Award nominiee Jess Glynne brought a splash of colour to the red carpet as she arrived in a jazzy ensemble teamed with circular sunglasses.
Skepta, whose real name is Joseph Junior Adenuga, is nominated for his song Shutdown alongside Roots Manuva and FRED, who are up for their song Cargo. It’s Bay’s first Ivor Novello award.
The award for outstanding contribution to British music went to Portishead and Bryan Adams received the special global award.
During the awards Snow Patrol’s Jonny Quinn called on the British government to provide tax breaks to help young artists break into the music industry.
The Irish musician and Snow Patrol member is part of the songwriting team behind Ed Sheeran’s Bloodstream, which has been nominated in the best song musically and lyrically category. You can’t judge it, it’s just fucking wrong… Collecting the award, Conor O’Brien said the personal album, which grapples with bigotry and homophobia, had marked a pivotal moment when he had “finally been an equal citizen in my own country”, it having been released just a month before Ireland legalised gay marriage.
The 28-year-old winning Songwriter, whose latest album, “25”, shot up the charts around the world upon its release in 2015, received her third Ivor Novello.

The “Ex Machina” soundtrack won Best Original Film Score, Oliver Knussen won the Classical Music Award, pop and R&B songwriter Wayne Hector (One Direction, Nicki Minaj, Olly Murs) won International Achievement, and “London Spy” won Best TV Soundtrack.
