Adele’s new album smashes single-week sales record
Fans were extremely eager for “25” to hit shelves, as it had been almost five years since Adele released new music.

It sold 696,000 in its debut chart week in the United Kingdom, beating the record previously held by Oasis’ 1997 album Be Here Now, which sold 696,000 in its debut chart week (although it was released on a Thursday, meaning only three days of sales were taken into account). Obviously, that smashes the previous record for that chart as well, and what makes this number particularly impressive is Adele didn’t actually offer the album for stream anywhere.
First-week sales figures for “25” were initially announced at 3.38 million, but an additional 100,000 were later added due to digital sales of “track equivalent albums” and “streaming equivalent albums”. The album sold more copies last week in England than the sales generated by the numbers 2 though 87 in sales combined. Swift’s album has sold some 1.76 million USA copies in 2015. The lowest week in Nielsen history for album sales was the frame ending September 17, when only 3.51 million albums were sold.
Adele uses her powerful voice and talent to tell us an authentic story that we can relate to across her songs. Taylor Swift’s 1989 has sold 1.8 million copies so far in 2015. Adele’s 25 sold more than that in four days, shattering the 15-year-old mark.
Selling 26 million copies of her second album, “21” worldwide.
These are numbers that are increasingly rare in the music industry, where album sales are affected by illegal downloads and streaming services.
Right now, British singer Adele is on everyone’s radar and 25 is currently the number one album on the Billboard 200 charts.
Adele s previous album, “21”, sat atop the Billboard 200 list of best selling albums for 24 nonconsecutive weeks and is the longest run in the top spot for a woman in the chart s history, Nielsen said. Renewed interest in the songstress has caused sales of her other music to spike as well.
