Adidas just lost the uniform deal with the National Basketball Association after Nike announced a deal to take over being the NBA’s supplier starting in the 2016-17.

Houston Rockets guard James Harden is about to land a very big endorsement deal with Adidas.

They’ve offered Harden a 13-year, $200 million contract, which would immediately follow his recently expired Nike deal.

Last season, Adidas was a distant second in the National Basketball Association in terms of shoe brands worn by players on the court.

In the year of 2012, Adidas, the company signed a massive 14-year deal with Derrick Rose, only to see him miss plenty of action because of knee injuries. Its different star is, whose aren’t actually displaying a lot promise. Endorser John Wall shows plenty of flash, but his first signature Adidas line fell relatively flat this year.

Adidas has fallen behind both Nike and Under Armour in sports apparel sales in the U.S. over the past year.

Since arriving in Houston prior to the 2012-13 season, Harden has gone from a secondary option to a legitimate superstar in the game. His beard speaks for itself, as does his natural sense of fashion. That’s huge for Adidas, who sells loads of Originals and will all the time use a lift to its costlier Y-Three line.

There’s also global hope for Harden, as the Rockets already are very popular in China thanks to former player Yao Ming. Rovell says in the past Nike would let Harden walk.

Adidas is underneath new management, which is keen to place its stamp on a turnaround. If he can stay healthy, Harden could become the golden egg that Adidas has been looking for in North American basketball.
