Adidas Responds to Criticism Over Valentine’s Day Photo with Same-Sex Couple

To celebrate the annual day of love this year, the activewear brand shared an image of the lower half of a same-sex couple, wearing identical Adidas trainers.

Usually corporations ignore or delete hateful comments, but whomever is managing Adidas’ went one better, dropping a few well-chosen emojis and a terse reminder that this holiday “is for love”. Sigh, this is why we can’t have nice things, even on Valentine’s Day.

Another struck fear into the successful global brand with this: “Shame on you adidas!!! Not for lesbians, stupid Adidas”. “I’m going to Nike now”.

While the majority of comments were positive and supportive, a minority posted homophobic comments, with some accusing the company of “taking sides”.

Responding to the homophobic blasts, the label commented on its own post to add, “No, this day is for LOVE. Happy Valentine’s Day”, finishing the message with a lipstick kiss emoji.

By showing a hand wave and a kiss emoji to all those people critiquing, Adidas showed how to deal with criticism like a boss!

The company scored massive points amongst the sporting community last week when they added a new clause to its athletes’ contracts that states their sponsorships won’t be affected if they announce they are gay, bi, or transgender.

Happy day Adidas have hit back after homophobic comments were left on an Instagram post they uploaded on Valentine's Day depicting a same-sex couple
