Advocaat hails Sunderland fight

Sunderland picked up their first point of the Premier League season as Jermain Defoe scored the leveller in a 1-1 draw with Swansea City.

Netherlands winger Jeremain Lens, a pre-season signing from Dynamo Kiev, was the catalyst with a neat pass to Defoe and he dispatched a clinical low shot into the far corner.

The former Villarreal midfielder has already had a spell in the Premier League with Swansea.

“We have Exeter now, we look at that to get a win, move on to the next round of the cup”.

“I still want to kick on and hopefully get many more”. They then found themselves 3-0 behind at home to newly promoted Norwich before eventually losing 3-1 last weekend.

The Black Cats were three goals down against the Canaries after an hour, and the only positive was a late consolation goal by winger Duncan Watmore on his Sunderland debut.

The American businessman feels that Gray owes him an apology and wrote: “Michael Gray made quite a serious accusation claiming that I have lied to supporters“. Last season saw draws in both South Wales and the North East.

“That’s up to him”, he said. He said, “We have to invest to make the team better” and that’s what we’ve tried to do.’ Asked if Sunderland would again fight relegation, he said: ‘Yes.

“The owner maintained Sunderland have spent £21.5m on players this summer and said they “remain hopeful” of bringing in more players before the transfer window shuts”. “That’s the way it goes”.

Dick Advocaat has refused to blame Sunderland’s trans-Atlantic pre-season for their very bad start to the campaign, even if he admits it wasn’t ideal. Besides the aforementioned duo, The Swans’s star performer is Jonjo Shelvey (featured in SofaScore round two Team of the Week) who provided physical presence all over the pitch, as well as clever distribution. “It’s been a hard start”. We hope to do better, and if we get the players in we are working on, it will be easier than last season. Monk added “I’m sure that’s what they’re going to do”.

Garry Monk’s relationship with his star striker Bafetimbi Gomis is less strained and the Frenchman has neatly plugged the gap up front left by Wilfried Bony. “Obviously everyone knows what a good team Swansea are so that’ll be a statement in itself to beat them on our home turf and beat them with a good performance”. He’s there to score goals. Jefferson Montero was a handful on the left and his crosses might have led to winners from Gomis or Andre Ayew.

“I knew he would suit the way I wanted to set the team up, so it’s no surprise to me”. As he becomes fitter and sharper, you can see that.
