AFC Bournemouth: Captain Tommy Elphick out for 10 weeks with ankle injury

Having initially been given a positive diagnosis it was hoped he would swiftly return, but the discomfort remained and he has since been operated on in an attempt to cure his condition.

“To this point, it has been a brilliant journey and I feel there is a lot more to come”, the 37-year-old added.

Eddie Howe insists he is “very happy” at Bournemouth and says he is desperate to help the club establish themselves in the Premier League. “Ten weeks is the estimate but it could be longer than that”.

Elphick, 28, joined Bournemouth from Brighton & Hove Albion in 2012, helping to guide the Cherries from League One to the Championship in his first season.

Callum Wilson, Tyrone Mings and Max Gradel – the last two the most expensive signings in the club’s history – are unlikely to play again in 2015-16 after each suffered anterior cruciate ligament injuries. “He’s got a great mentality when he’s playing, or when he’s injured”. He is in good mental shape.

Howe has revealed that Wilson has so far responded well to the surgery he underwent following the injury.

The operation went as well as can be expected. “While I am enjoying such a good relationship with the owner and the people who run the club, I am very happy here”.

The Cherries boss also said he expects midfielder Harry Arter to return soon following a niggling groin problem, after he turned out for the team’s Under-21s against Colchester on Monday.

As such, Howe is already making plans for the January transfer window.

“We have players in mind, but there can be twists and turns”, he told a news conference on Wednesday.
