She suffered a possible cardiac arrest on Monday night in her Sausalito, Calif. home in Marin County, New York Daily News reported Tuesday.

A statement from her family and the Tupac Shakur estate, Amaru Entertainment, mourned her loss.
An investigation is set to determine the cause of Afeni’s death.
Born Alice Faye Williams in North Carolina, Davis was an active member of the Black Panther Party in NY as a young adult.
For the last two decades of her life, Afeni Shakur focused on keeping her son’s legacy alive while managing his musical catalog. She was acquitted of the charges and released in May of 1971, and Tupac was born the following month.
In September 1996, Tupac was killed at 25 after a drive-by shooting in Las Vegas, Nevada.
The 69 year old’s net worth was listed at more that £34 million at the time of her death.

Dina LaPolt, the attorney who handled Tupac Shakur’s, paid tribute to Ms Shakur as “one of the smartest people I’ve ever worked with”.
Afeni long opposed the selling of her son’s memorabilia, and regularly looked to block the sale of merchandise and signed items.
Afeni Shakur was a true soldier as well and will be sorely missed.
She was the subject of his 1995 song “Dear Mama”, in which Tupac detailed his childhood struggles and respect for his mother’s battle back from addiction. Her substance abuse drove son Tupac away for a few years, during which time he went from Digital Underground hypeman to rap icon, beginning with the release of his first solo album 2Pacalypse Now in 1991.
Afeni also played an integral part in greenlighting the Tupac biopic, All Eyez on Me, which recently finished filming.

She later told National Public Radio in an interview that she believed she should use her son’s legacy to promote positivity and change. Then I remembered that I was in NY to attend a Mother’s Day event named after a song written about Afeni, Dear Mama.
