The Marin County Sheriff’s Department, located in California, confirmed her death on Twitter on Tuesday morning.
In 1969, Afeni and other Black Panther members were arrested and convicted with conspiracy to bomb multiple, busy city landmarks.
Officials have not released a cause of death.
In 1971, Shakur Davis gave birth to a son, Lesane Parish Crooks, whom she quickly renamed Tupac Amaru Shakur.
After Tupac was killed in a drive-by shooting in 1996, Ms Shakur took over his estate and was instrumental in keeping his legacy going.
Recalling the case years later, she said they were accused of conspiring to commit murder and arson, to blow up the Bronx Botanical Garden and the Abercrombie & Fitch and Macy’s department stores, and even police stations.

In 2014, she co-produced a Broadway musical entitled Holler If Ya Hear Me which featured her son’s work. Today she is reunited with her son and Sekyiwa has two majestic angels to look after her.
Tupac honored his mother with his 1995 hit “Dear Mama.”
Late rapper Tupac Shakur was “resurrected” at the Coachella music festival last month with hologram technology that allowed audience members to see a rendered version of the rapper on stage. She was an American music businesswoman, philanthropist, political activist and Black Panther.
Writing on Facebook, she said: “Today I woke up to the news that Afeni had passed. But my plan is to show you that I understand – you are appreciated”. His killer was never caught. Davis also served as the CEO and founder of Amaru Entertainment, Inc., a record and film production company based in Atlanta.
Through her words she offered a lot of wisdom, and we’ll leave you with this from 2011: “My personal message for Tupac fans would be for them to live brightly, strongly – out loud”.

Shakur filed for divorce from her husband Gust Davis earlier this year.
