Shakur showed signs of cardiac arrest and was rushed to the hospital, where she passed away around 10:30 p.m.

The Marin County Sheriff has advised that a coroner will examine the body in order to determine if the exact cause of Afeni Shakur Davis’ death truly was a heart attack.

Davis, born Alice Faye Williams in North Carolina, was a well-known activist who spent 11 months in jail while on charge for conspiracy in 1969, before giving birth to Tupac.

She was 69, people.com reports.

Late rapper Tupac Shakur was “resurrected” at the Coachella music festival last month with hologram technology that allowed audience members to see a rendered version of the rapper on stage.

After Tupac’s death, Davis took over his estate, which reportedly earns $900,00 per year.

Afeni Shakur’s courage and spirit, long after her son’s death, inspired many of today’s hip-hoppers.

Through her words she offered a lot of wisdom, and we’ll leave you with this from 2011: “My personal message for Tupac fans would be for them to live brightly, strongly – out loud”. She is survived by her daughter Sekyiwa Shakur.

Serving as executive producer on the upcoming biopic All Eyez on Me, a movie about her son’s life due for release in November, Afeni’s character is played by The Walking Dead’s Danai Gurira.

“I miss interacting with that human being, that flawless being that excited, lovable, really magnificent spirit”.
