AFF Suzuki Cup Draw: Malaysia handed ‘Group of Death’ escape
The Philippines will get to know its opponent for the group stage of the AFF Suzuki Cup when organizers of Southeast Asia’s biggest football competitions hold a draw today in Yangon, Myanmar.

Co-host Myanmar, Vietnam, Malaysia, and the victor of the qualifying tournament in October comprise Group B.

Pot 4 is composed of Indonesia and the top team of the qualifying event in October in Cambodia.
The official draw was held in host city Yangon, Myanmar on Tuesday (Aug 2).
“Though some may say we have a relatively easier draw, I feel that that’s not the case”.
That was followed by a training tour of Japan and Cambodia last month, where they won once and lost the other in two games against university teams, lost to J-League side Albirex Niigata, then finished with a first defeat to Cambodia in 44 years.

Malaysia head coach Ong Kim Swee stated that the Malayan Tigers will qualify for the semi-final stage of the 2016 AFF Cup.

In 2012, Malaysia, coached by Datuk K. Rajagopal, bowed out in the semi-finals after going down 3-1 on aggregate to Thailand. “I am confident that our team will put up a good performance at the year-end Suzuki Cup”.
