In a major announcement, Warner Bros. chief Kevin Tsujihara has confirmed that Ben Affleck, who essayed the role of the Dark Knight in the recently released “Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice”, will be directing a stand-alone movie revolving around Batman.

In addition to being contracted for Justice League Part One and Part Two, Affleck will now be getting his own Batman movie which he’ll also be directing.

It had been previously reported that a “Batman” movie that would be directed by Affleck was in the works. CEO, Kevin Tsujihara, confirmed to a crowd that the Batman standalone film is happening. Meanwhile, Kenneth Turan of the Los Angeles Times wrote that the character of Batman is “convincingly played by a committed Affleck”. “I guarantee you he’s read everything (movie reviews)… and he’s like: ‘OK, these are all the pitfalls my script isn’t going to fall into, ‘” Smith told a crowd two weeks ago (via Detroit Free Press).

Sadly there aren’t yet any details on when we can expect to see the standalone Batman – though the DC slate is now full all the way up until 2020. Affleck is gonna be a busy bee for the next year, at least.

Aside from starring as the main man, directing the feature, it’s also believed that Affleck will pen the script. As to what the storyline will consist of remains unclear but there are plenty of avenues one could take with the troubled billionaire.
