‘Affluenza’ teen Ethan Couch, mother detained in Mexico
CNN is reporting tonight that Mexican authorities arrested both of them near Puerto Vallarta, a popular beach resort area. Authorities are investigating whether Couch, who killed four people in a 2013 drunken-driving wreck, and claimed as part of his defense that he suffered from “affluenza”, has fled with his mother to avoid a potential violation of his probation.

Couch, now 18, is the subject of an worldwide manhunt after violating probation terms for his conviction on four counts of vehicular manslaughter.
The Tarrant County Sheriff’s Office said Monday night it was aware of the CNN report, but “cannot confirm” Couch’s apprehension.
Ethan Couch was detained with his mother in Puerto Vallarta, CNN reported.
Couch’s probation officer was unable to contact him or his mother, attorneys Reagan Wynn and Scott Brown said in a written statement about their client in December, prompting a search. The U.S. Marshals Service in Dallas was offering a $5,000 reward for the capture of 18-year-old Couch.
Prosecutors had asked that Couch be sentenced to 20 years in a state lockup.
Calls to the U.S. Marshals and Federal Bureau of Investigation by the Daily News were not immediately returned.

Another 12 people were injured, including Sergio Molina and Solaiman Mohman, teenagers who were riding in the bed of Couch’s pickup. Couch had a blood alcohol level three time the adult driving limit in Texas, along with traces of Valium and marijuana in his system.
