Afghan blast kills at least 21

A bomb explosion killed at least 21 people in Afghanistan’s restive northern province of Kunduz, officials said Sunday.

He said most of those killed were thought to be pro-government militia who have been fighting an offensive launched earlier this year by the Taliban and Central Asian extremists who have sworn allegiance to the Islamic State militant group.

Four commanders are said to be among those killed on Saturday when a Taliban suicide bomber targeted a gathering in the province of Kunduz.

It was the latest in a series of deadly attacks across the country – three of which took place in the Afghan capital on Friday, killing scores of civilians and injuring hundreds of others.

According to the Dawn, the people killed included mainly members of illegal armed groups that have clashed with the security forces and insurgents in the past.

Amiri stated 19 others have been wounded, together with 15 civilians.

US-led North Atlantic Treaty Organisation forces ended their combat mission in Afghanistan in December last year, although a 13,000-strong residual force remains for training and counter-terrorism operations.

He said the woman was hanged to death on Saturday in Sarda area which is under the control of the Taliban militants.

In a separate incident, Taliban insurgents also beheaded two local policemen and a civilian in the same province on Saturday.

“A woman was found guilty of adultery charges during a Taliban court hearing in Warduj district on Saturday”, said Frotan. The insurgents accused the three of spying, Mr Frotan said.
