Afghanistan, Pakistan territory should not be used against each other: Sartaj Aziz

Commenting on United States drone strike in Noshki, Balochistan, Asif said the attack sabotaged Afghan peace process.

Pakistani Interior Minister Ch Nisar Ali Khan in a press conference on the issue on Tuesday 24th May 2016 clearly indicated Pakistan’s anger on the violation of its territory by USA government. “Legal action should be taken against all those USA officials responsible for killing my innocent brother in a drone strike near Noshki”, read a statement in the FIR.

Pakistan had several time referred Taliban as their one of the biggest enemy and urged the public to not to support the terrorist organisation. “Drone strikes have added to the complexity of the Afghan conflict”, said.

The Afghan Taliban focus on US, Nato and Afghan security forces in Afghanistan but oppose targeting the Pakistani state.

Mansour had refused to join Ghani’s earlier efforts to start a peace dialogue, instead intensifying the war. Besides, it hasn’t done anything to remove Pakistan’s concerns about the misuse of Afghanistan’s soil by India to destabilise Pakistan.

Muhammad Azam, a Pakistani citizen, was driving Mansour from the Pakistan-Iran border to Quetta, in Pakistan, when a drone destroyed the vehicle and killed both men. The Interior Ministry said yesterday that the tests proved that Mansour was killed in the drone attack.

The minister lamented that U.S. and other world powers were providing arms to India, while F-16 jets and military aid to Pakistan was being blocked despite its uncountable sacrifices in the war on terror.

Nawaz Sharif before becoming Prime Minister, he said, had unequivocally stated that drone attacks will not be tolerated.

Drone attacks have proven extremely controversial with the Pakistani public and rights groups.

The crowd in Peshawar also chanted anti-US slogans and burned an American flag. The Murree dialogue was also ruined by the sudden disclosure of the death of Mullah Omar and now when there were some hopes of resumption of the dialogue process, the drone attack was carried out to kill the top leader of Afghan Taliban. Pakistan had been active as part of four way group with Afghanistan, China and USA to help start the peace talks.

The Pak-US relations have their ups and downs but the ties have been gradually deteriorating in recent months. With the USA and its North Atlantic Treaty Organisation allies having withdrawn most of their 150,000 forces from Afghanistan by December 2014, the dependence on Pakistan and the use of its overland route to supply North Atlantic Treaty Organisation forces has been reduced.
