Fremantle’s Nat Fyfe has won the 2015 Brownlow Medal for the AFL’s best and fairest player, polling 31 votes in Monday’s count.
Ablett had the lead past year with 22, but a shoulder injury in round 16 ended his season.
THE AFL has apologised after a merchandise promotion suggesting a Sam Mitchell Brownlow Medal win was accidentally published on the ShopAFL website.
Fyfe’s tally of 31 votes is the third-highest haul in the modern era, behind Dane Swan’s 34 in 2011 and Robert Harvey in 1998, who polled 32.
The Hawks will play West Coast in the decider at the MCG on Saturday.
The image was stamped “concept purposes only” and was accompanied by a lengthy caption that read in part: “Congratulations to Hawthorn midfield star Sam Mitchell on a stellar 2015 season, capped off by becoming only Hawthorn’s fourth ever Brownlow medallist”.
It’s the first time that’s happened since the 1930s.
Given the circumstances, Geelong coach Chris Scott said over the weekend he would try to avoid Dangerfield at the Brownlow, which will be his last official function as a Crows player.
Josh Kennedy (25) and Dan Hannebery (24) rounded out the top five in what was one of the most thrilling counts in a number of years.

If he wins, Goldstein would be the first ruckman to take out the Brownlow since Melbourne’s Jim Stynes and the Western Bulldogs’ Scott Wynd in the 1991-92 seasons.
