D’Tigeress captain, Helen Ogunjimi in an earlier interview with Daily Trust expressed the readiness of the Nigerian ladies to win their third African title and also qualify for the Rio Olympics Games in 2016.
Mozambique defeated Gabon 79 to 49 points in Group A encounter and finished as third best team.
It would be recalled that two years ago, Mozambique upset Nigeria in the quarter-finals, and yesterday, Nigeria’s Independence Day, the Southern Afrocans were very close to repeating their fortunes, but D’Tigress stepped on the floor in desperation mode, reaching the tournament’s semi-finals for the second time since 2011. Mozambique is a great team. But a succession of poor execution resulting in three turnovers in that moment of the game allowed Nigeria to regain a 12-point lead. We didn’t do a good of job rebounding.
She not only played aggressive defense, but 30-year-old guard provide two crucial three-pointers keeping Nigeria very much alive in the contest.
