After Deadly US Strikes, Syria Beats Back ISIS

The city’s airport and some government-held districts have been entirely surrounded by Islamic State since a year ago, with the airport providing the only external access.

During the emergency meeting that was held last night, Power mentioned that Russian Federation never called an urgent meeting in order to condemn Syrian President Bashar al-Assad for some of the “most systematic atrocities in a generation”.

“We are at a new stage that requires making the decision to embrace reconciliation”, Diab added in a statement carried by Sanaa news agency. He urged insurgents to halt what he called the bloodshed and destruction and affirmed that all who turned themselves in and surrendered their weapons would be treated well and allowed to return to normal life.

Moscow laid the blame squarely on the opposition after activists reported the strikes.

“Really American citizens have been beheaded by this group, we are leading a 67 country coalition to destroy this group”, said Samantha Power, US ambassador to the UN.

Russian Federation has repeatedly called on the U.S. to push units of moderate Syrian opposition to separate from Islamic State and other “terrorist groups”. “And it is getting close to that even now”, Kerry said. The U.S. military has acknowledged that it may have struck Syrian troops in error.

The cease-fire deal is now threatened with a recent escalation between Moscow and Washington, after the US-led airstrikes killed 90 Syrian servicemen in the eastern province of Deir al-Zour on Saturday.

Russia, Syria’s main ally, accused the United States of endangering the deal after a US-led coalition strike that killed dozens of Syrian soldiers in the east.

Its statement said an investigation was underway.

The Observatory said at least 30 jihadists were killed in the counterattack by the army.

The Russian Foreign Ministry stressed that U.S. air strikes against Syrian government forces jeopardize the Syrian ceasefire deal reached between Moscow and Washington on September 9.

Russian Federation has repeatedly called on the United States to push units of moderate Syrian opposition to separate from Islamic State and other “terrorist groups”.

Earlier Sunday, the state-run SANA news agency quoted an unnamed military official as saying that dozens of ISIS fighters were killed in the offensive on Tharda mountain under the cover of Syrian airstrikes.

A Syrian army general reported on Syrian national television that US-led coalition jets, two F-16 and two A-10, entered from the territory of Iraq and bombed the government army positioned on the al-Tharda Mountain in the region of Deir ez-Zor.

“The army has retaken most of its positions on Jabal Therdeh with Russian and Syrian air support”, the source said, referring to a hilltop overlooking the base.

It also wants to deliver to other areas which are hard to reach, but said it had not received necessary permission from the Syrian government.

“If what Ambassador Power has done today is any indication of their possible reaction then we are in serious trouble”, Russian U.N. Ambassador Vitaly Churkin said told reporters. Tens of thousands of people live in government-held neighborhoods of Deir el-Zour under the siege of IS fighters.

The truce saw violence drop across the country for several days after it came into force last Monday, but fighting has since erupted on several fronts and besieged civilians are still waiting desperately for promised aid. The accord calls for a nationwide truce, but that excludes attacks on the Islamic State and a former al-Qaida affiliate, Jabhat Fatah al-Sham.

“The truce. will not hold out”, a senior rebel official in Aleppo said.

On Sunday, the first air strikes since the ceasefire began hit rebel-held districts in Aleppo, killing one woman.
