After Emmy win, a bittersweet moment for Julia Louis-Dreyfus

“I am so glad that he liked ‘Veep, ‘” she said, her voice breaking down as she accepted the award. She said the comedy, where she plays VP/President Selina Meyer, started out as a political satire, but now feels like “sobering documentary“.

On a night when politics played large in the midst of an extraordinary 2016 USA election campaign, Veep star Julia Louis-Dreyfus also won her fifth straight Emmy for her role in the satirical White House comedy.

“I’d like to apologise for the current political climate”, she began. Including one for Sarah Paulson, who gave a stirring defense of the real-life character she played. She won her first Emmy in 1996 for playing Elaine Benis on Seinfeld.

But the top drama acting trophies were far from predictable: Rami Malek of “Mr. Robot” and Tatiana Maslany of “Orphan Black” were the winners, both overcoming heavyweight competition.

John Travolta is flying high in more ways than one after The People v. O.J. Simpson: American Crime Story’s big night at the 2016 Emmy Awards. But she knew who to credit.

“Thanks to Mark Burnett, we don’t have to watch reality shows anymore, because we’re living them”, Kimmel said.

The Sky Atlantic fantasy was named best drama series and picked up gongs for outstanding writing and directing to become the most-awarded narrative show in Emmy history.

Malek, 35, took home his first career Emmy for best dramatic actor for his role as socially awkward computer hacker Elliot Alderson, who goes to work for an anarchist in the United States of America series “Mr. Robot”.

“Veep” producer David Mandel also blasted Trump, saying that if he dared use similar rhetoric as that of the divisive candidate on the HBO comedy, he would be fired. The actress revealed that her father died on Friday and that her Emmy was being dedicated to him.
