After grabbing Tottenham winner, Kane leaves on crutches

Kane scored the winning goal in this morning’s 1-0 win over Sunderland at White Hart Lane, but was forced off the field on a stretcher after a challenge from Papy Djilobodji.

Kane netted his second Premier League goal in as many games just before the hour mark after taking advantage of a bad mistake from Sunderland central defender Papy Djilobodji.

Under current boss Mauricio Pochettino, the Spurs’ return to the Champions League was less than inspiring, as they fell 2-1 to A.S. Monaco on Wednesday, sending a crowd of 80,000 at Wembley Stadium home in a sullen mood. I am happy for him.

“Its true that if you have a look at the images we can be a bit anxious”.

“They only felt cramps in the hamstring, it’s not that big an issue”, the manager said.

Tottenham captain Hugo Lloris said the players were stung by Mauricio Pochettino’s criticism last week but proved a point in Sunday’s home win over Sunderland.

While Kane’s injury took some of the shine off Tottenham’s victory on Sunday, their third triumph from their opening five top-flight fixtures took them up to third place in the table and restored momentum and confidence after last Wednesday’s Champions League defeat to Monaco.

They’re now third in the Premier League table, right where they finished last season, but they have some tough sledding right ahead. Arsenal drew, [Manchester] City and Leicester won, we need to be focused on ourselves. It’s not about names it’s about performances. When one player is missing, it gives an opportunity to another player to bring his skills, energy and quality.

The pattern of the second half was much the same as the first, with Spurs pressing for the opening goal, which finally came just before the hour-mark, although Sunderland will be disappointed with their part in it. It’s not unfamiliar territory, of course, but these are worrying times for Moyes, whose side face Crystal Palace, West Brom and Stoke in their next three league matches – all games that could define their fight for survival.

“Credit to the players, that’s what we are at the moment – we have to be resilient in games and looking to get things”, he said.

And with Spurs frontman Harry Kane expected to be facing a period on the sidelines after being stretchered off with an ankle injury late on against Sunderland, Son could now even get a chance in his more favoured central striking role.

“We were unfortunate, but at least we kept the score down to one”. That is why they finished where they were last season.

Their preparation was further dented with the curious withdrawal of Patrick van Aanholt before the game, a situation that manager David Moyes refused to elaborate on after the match. It’s new for us, so it’s important to learn.
