For its part, Lago has said they have followed the letter of the law and recently resumed construction on the $425 million casino to be located at exit 41 of the state Thruway. Operations are expected to be up and running within two years.

Among the proposed casino projects is the Lago Resort and Casino in the Finger Lakes town of Tyre.

While some preliminary work already has begun on the three casino projects on the state commission’s agenda Monday, formal licensure will allow them to move forward with construction and financing, the AP said.

Additional opposition has come from Turning Stone Casino Resort in Verona, Oneida County, run by the Oneida Indian Nation and from Delaware North Co.

The Gaming Commission’s five members unanimously approved each without comment, concluding that principals and associates cleared criminal background checks and the applicants met environmental, legal and financial requirements.

“On behalf of my family, everyone at Wilmorite and our Lago Resort & Casino partners, employees and supporters, I want to thank the New York State Gaming Commission for the trust they have shown in us”, Thomas Wilmot, the owner of Lago Casino & Resort in Tyre, said in a statement.

The Gaming Commission, which was limited its ability to reject the licenses, has been reviewing projects and planned to have the review complete by year’s end. He reiterated the casino’s benefits for Seneca County and the Finger Lakes region – it will create 1,800 construction jobs and 1,800 permanent jobs once it’s open for business. The casino, with 1,150 slot machines and 66 table games, is expected to be built within 16 to 18 months. The plaintiffs claim the town board did the bidding of casino developers by failing to properly scrutinize how the large development would affect the local environment.
