After Phelps, US Gymnast Simone Biles Makes History In Rio Olympics

The gold medal in the Olympic women’s gymnastics individual all-around competition wasn’t merely won by Simone Biles – it was the most convincing argument yet that Biles is the greatest of all time in her sport.

Biles has spent the last three years dominating her sport, winning 15 world championships.

U.S. gymnast Simone Biles won gold (62.198 points), and her compatriot Alexandra Raisman took silver (60.098 points).

Biles, competing at her first Olympic Games, made a mockery of those who doubted her ability to cope with the occasion and added pressure of being the outstanding favorite.

Shutting down any potential sexist remarks from the media, who have a track record of sidelining women in favour of male competitors, she spoke up for females the world over.

“I was thinking I’ve finally done it, and when that hits you, you can’t stop the emotions”.

Biles is already the face of Olympic gymnastics, and she could stay that way for years to come.

But any thoughts of the Russian recording a shock victory were quickly extinguished as Biles produced a fine beam effort to take her clear of her opponents. Russians now hold four golds, seven silvers and six bronze medals, TASS reports. “I’m the first Simone Biles”.

This is the 17th medal for the Russian national team at the Rio Games.

“I’m not the next Usain Bolt or Michael Phelps”, Biles said after the event.
