After Wisconsin, Democrats focus on New York

Texas Senator Ted Cruz scored a commanding victory over Donald Trump in Wisconsin’s presidential primary yesterday, putting the Republican frontrunner on notice that his march to the nomination is not a done deal.

Almost four in 10 Republican primary voters in Wisconsin said they’re scared about what Trump would do as president, according to exit polls.

“Tonight is a turning point”, Cruz said in his victory speech and on Twitter.

“The hardworking men and women of Wisconsin stood and campaigned tirelessly to make sure that tonight was a victory for every American”, Mr Cruz said after his victory. “We have a choice, a real choice”, said Sen.

Cruz was flanked by Wisconsin Gov. Scott Walker, who endorsed his former rival last week. And the state’s top right-wing radio hosts rallied hard around him, giving him additional cover in the conservative state. Trump, meanwhile, likely made a regrettable calculation in forcefully attacking Walker and his record in Wisconsin.

But it was a stark turn for Trump with many demographics he’s typically dominated in past GOP contests so far.

USA networks called the race for Cruz and Sanders within half an hour of polls closing in the Midwestern state that borders Canada.

But voters turned out to give Cruz the Wisconsin win.

Sanders still faces a hard task overtaking Clinton as the race moves to NY on April 19 and to five other Eastern states on April 26. Trump will finish Tuesday with at least 220 more delegates than Cruz, with fewer than 900 delegates left.

Trump didn’t hold any public events Tuesday night, likely anticipating a loss.

Trump withstood the onslaught of the establishment yet again.

Trump has grown increasingly frustrated with the governor and has joined Cruz in calling for Kasich to end his campaign.

Wisconsin handed an important victory to Ted Cruz Tuesday night and was the latest bit of bad news for Donald Trump’s campaign.

Texas U.S. Sen. Ted Cruz was trouncing Trump in the Dairy State by a 20-point margin, and the news wasn’t any better for Democratic front-runner
Hillary Clinton. With 86 delegates at stake in Wisconsin, Mr. Sanders will pick up at least 44 and Ms. Clinton will gain at least 28.

If Trump falls short of the 1 237 delegates needed before July 18, it will result in a contested convention.

Same for Hillary. Win your home state of NY or expect to be seeing a lot of
Bernie Sanders all the way to the convention.

In the Democratic race, the win for Sanders, a USA senator from Vermont, is his sixth in the last seven contests for the nomination. But three-quarters of Democratic voters say Clinton has realistic policies. She wrote: “To all the voters and volunteers who poured your hearts into this campaign: Forward!” “Since 1960, no one has won the White House without taking two of these three states”, referring to Democrat John F. Kennedy losing OH and Florida to Republican Richard Nixon and still winning the presidency. Because Democrats award delegates proportionally, a narrow victory by either candidate on Tuesday would mean that both Sanders and Clinton would get a similar number of delegates. Trump also leads in Pennsylvania.

The Cruz Campaign was quick to dismiss the angry statement coming out from the Trump campaign.
