Afternoon showers, heat index temperatures could top 105

A warm and wet week is in store for the Gainesville area this week, according to the National Weather Service.

The forecast for Eugene-Springfield on Sunday includes an afternoon high of around 90 degrees.

Showers are expected to increase late tonight to early Tuesday morning as weather forecasting models show a surge of moisture pushed onshore by easterly winds. Light and variable wind becoming southeast 5 to 8 miles per hour in the morning.

There’s a small chance of showers overnight, with showers and thunderstorms likely Tuesday, especially in the afternoon. Clouds are expected to be mostly cloudy with a high near 84 degrees and a low around 70 degrees.

Sunday: Mostly sunny, with a high near 89. Partly sunny, with a high near 91. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 72. Any shower or thunderstorm that develops can be heavy and gusty.

Sunday night’s low is 71, with a chance of precipitation at 30 percent.

Friday A 40 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms. Friday Night A 30 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms.

Wednesday’s high temperatures will be knocked down to the upper 80s, but it will still be humid with the chance for a shower or thunderstorm.

Thursday A 50 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms. Wind: NE 5-10. High: 88. More of the same at night, but a low around 71.

Monday through Wednesday is expected to bring sunny days with highs in the high 80s.
