Rodgers was sacked by Liverpool earlier this season following a disappointing campaign last season which saw the club unable to maintain their place in the top four of the Premier League table.
The £1,620,229 Watford spent is a sharp rise from the £355,750 the Golden Boys paid during September 2013 and October 2014.
It could be down to deals like James Milner’s free transfer from City and big-money signings Christian Benteke and Firmino, while clubs have been known to stagger agent payments, meaning Mario Balotelli’s annus horribilis could also feature in the total.
The Fenway Sports Group bought Liverpool in 2010 after the club’s former USA owners defaulted on loans used to purchase the 18-time English champion.
Manchester United are second having paid £13,881,814 while Manchester City are third have spent £12,429,380.
There were dramatic cuts in spending by Chelsea and Tottenham Hotspur, down from £16.8m and £11m respectively to £12m and £6m.

Further down the pyramid, League One club Bury and League Two’s Accrington Stanley Hartlepool did not pay anything at all in to agents.
