‘Agents of SHIELD’ EP Explains What’s Next After That Shocking Midseason

I got emotionally invested and I certainly enjoyed the watch, but all this week Marvel was promising a profound game changer and while some status quo changes did occur, they weren’t all that resounding.

So Ward’s story wasn’t one of redemption, how he took his bitterness and turned it into something better… Let’s back up so I can explain.

Tonight is going to be the winter finale for ABC’s “Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D” and director Phil Coulson (Clark Gregg) and Leo Fitz (Iain Caestecker) are going to be in danger. Instead, they’ll sneak into the castle through an old drain and split into two teams; one will rescue Fitz or Simmons (they don’t know which one went through the Portal) and one will get everyone the hell out of that Portal and back onto Earth. It was all very Prometheus and it was a bit telegraphed, but still, while Fitz struggled with the beastie, it was heart-in-throat stuff because who doesn’t love Fitz? Paste caught up with the actor to talk about her time on the show, her take on Rosalind’s true nature, and whether this is truly the end for her awesome character. Read on if you would like to know what happens next before the new episode airs. Could Fitz kill Ward? We didn’t get a sense of how unsafe they might’ve been. Sava in his previous reviews has often criticized the show with its bland direction, and while I’m not as harsh on that aspect as he is, I do think “Maveth” is particularly good looking for the show, with clear blocking of the action sequences and strong aesthetic that feels more comic book-y. They’ve forced Coulson into a place where he has to cross a line I don’t think he’s ever crossed before. Daisy and her team of Inhumans, on the other hand, will continue to ward off the forces of Hydra.

On the other hand, Coulson is nearing his breaking point as S.H.I.E.L.D. and Hydra battle.

First the website says that the episode, which is called “Maveth”, lives up to its title. May had some personal issues of her own. At the end of the midseason finale we learned that this character, despite what we saw on Maveth, was not actually dead … at least to a certain extent.

Mack, Bobbi, and Hunter make it to the Hydra agents and kick some butt off-screen while May finds Simmons and Daisy, Lincoln, and Joey get to use their powers against telekinetic man. Everyone meets up in the transportation room and mull over what happens next, what that thing is, if Fury knew what the Monolith could do…except for May.

Bell: Well, it’s a little like when we had to go tell him that he was Hydra.

A rare occurrence also occurred this week. The Power Rangers, as Mack dubs them, all bond over how scared and unheroic they feel, which reminds May that most people experience those emotions before combat.

Currently, the most frustrating thing about Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. is how uninterested it seems with regard to exploring Inhumans. He is always good with a quip or a sudden burst of violence, but Mack rarely changes. There are still a lot of dangers that lie ahead on S.H.I.E.L.D.’s battlefronts. Mack and Daisy come out with Fitz and Coulson. As Ward made his attacks more personal, Coulson has had trouble distancing himself as the director. However, it seems like it will offer more questions than answers. You know what? It’s working. It still showed maturity for Fitz to rise above the situation and be able to appreciate Will for what he did for Simmons. Have a very nice day, dear friends. But at what price?

When we last left our heroes on Agents of SHIELD, Fitz and Ward had gone through the Portal on a quest to unleash a Hydra-worshipped hellbeast, Coulson had gone through the Portal on a quest to unleash justice upon Ward’s face and everyone else was on a quest to keep each other from getting dead. He put Ward down with the right mix of finality and somberness. (Literally.) Simmons understandably chooses self-preservative over Hydra’s bullets and frees Andrew, but her choice begins a deadly unraveling of events. With the portal made of black goo, I kind of want it to be a Venom symbiote, but it’s not.
