Aggressive Steelers hit all right notes in opening win

Wheaton is eager to rejoin an offense that put up 38 points at Washington and featured a 300-yard passer (QB Ben Roethlisberger, 300), a 100-yard rusher (RB DeAngelo Williams, 143) and a 100-yard receiver (WR Antonio Brown) in the same game for the first time since December 6, 2015 against Indianapolis.

The Redskins’ Bashaud Breeland is a good young cornerback, and after starting 29 games in his first two seasons, 2016 was supposed to be a coming out of sorts.

“I feel far more prepared for the regular season this preseason than I ever did in past preseasons, when I played more in games, because of all those practices in Richmond, all those practices going back to May and June”.

I see this as being a close one and while all of the missed extra points and two-point conversions have diminished the significance of getting a half of point off of a key number like we are getting here at 3.5, I just like getting more than a field goal in what should be a very physical game.

For good reason. Brown made an outstanding catch on a ball that was brilliantly thrown.

Just six minutes into the Redskins’ Monday Night Football opener against the Steelers, cameras caught Norman in a sideline spat with safety David Bruton Jr.

PRIME TIME READY: Tomlin improved to 11-2 on Monday night, including 6-2 on the road and 2-0 at Washington.

Cousins showed, according to Gruden, that he still has some growing up to do as an National Football League starter. Rothelisberger also threw 300 passing yards and 1 interception.

“He’s going to have some bumps along the way”.

“I would absolutely think that’s the blueprint”, Redskins broadcaster Chris Cooley said Tuesday morning on his radio show on ESPN980. “How he responds to those downs will make or break him as a quarterback”.

“That’s not who we are”, Roethlisberger said.

Gruden acknowledged that there were “two bad decisions”, in hindsight, on fourth downs in the first half.

Asked about the animosity between both teams, Heyward said: “What animosity?”

San Francisco ran up a 14-0 half-time lead on the Rams thanks to rushing scores from the running back duo of Hyde and Shaun Draughn.

Another wrinkle to this story is that despite being a Steelers fan, Sydney was a former Redskins cheerleader.

Steelers’ running back DeAngelo Williams had 26 carries for 143 yards and two touchdowns on Monday night, as a capable fill-in for the suspended Le’Veon Bell once again, so there is clearly a need to address defensively for the Redskins. Brown led the wide receivers with eight receptions for 126 yards, and he grabbed two touchdowns to help solidify the win.

Washington gave cornerback Josh Norman $50 million in guarantees, money befitting one of the game’s few shutdown corners. “One thing they did was play patient and force us to take stuff underneath”, says Cousins. “But the game is done”. We got the win a year ago. He was released on cutdown day, September 3.
