Manchester City striker Sergio Aguero has been charged by the Football Association with violent conduct after an elbow on West Ham defender Winston Reid.

Referee Andre Marriner did not include the incident in his match report, with retrospective action set to be taken against the attacker. That has now been pushed back to Thursday after City were granted dispensation because of the involvement of administrative staff in deadline-day transfers.

The 28-year old damaged his calf during Manchester City’s 3-1 Premier League victory over West Ham on Sunday.

Referee Andre Marriner did not see the 76th-minute incident during City’s 3-1 win on Sunday and the FA has made a decision to take retrospective action after reviewing television footage. But he would be eligible to play in City’s Champions League clash with Borussia Monchengladbach, which follows the game against United.

The FA says the incident on Sunday was not seen by match officials but was caught on video. He has until 6pm on Wednesday 31 August to reply.

West Ham captain Reid had to be taken off midway through the second-half following the collision with Aguero.

Aguero’s injury has also come as a blow to Argentina’s 2018 World Cup qualifying plans as they have a home game with Uruguay tomorrow and a visit to Venezuela five days later.

Reid was replaced by Jonathan Calleri and left the pitch holding his neck but Bilic said he was going to substitute the New Zealand global anyway.
