Aguero charged with violent conduct by English FA

The Manchester City striker came off in the 88th minute of Sunday’s 3-1 Premier League win against West Ham at the Etihad Stadium.

There was no action taken at the time by referee Andre Marriner, but the incident could lead to a retrospective punishment for Aguero that could see him suspended for City’s derby clash with Manchester United at Old Trafford that comes after the worldwide break.

City maintain Marriner must have seen the clash because he was fewer than five yards away, which would put Aguero in the clear.

Sergio Aguero is set to miss the Manchester derby after being charged with violent conduct by the FA on Tuesday.

The forward could miss the derby on September 10, along with the following fixtures against Bournemouth and Swansea City, should he face retrospective punishment for appearing to deliberately elbow Winston Reid.

City have until 6pm today to respond.

‘For retrospective action to be taken, and an FA charge to follow, the decision of the panel must be unanimous’.

An FA statement read: “Sergio Aguero has been charged for an alleged act of violent conduct which was not seen by the match officials but caught on video”. Each member of the panel will review the footage and determine if they consider it a sending-off offense.

Guardiola said on Sunday that he hadn’t seen the altercation but promised City would plough on regardless.

Even without him, the Red’s backline will have to contend with Kevin De Bruyne, Nolito, David Silva and a resurgent Raheem Sterling.
