Aguero could face ban after FA charge for violent conduct

Manchester City’s first match after the worldwide break is against city rivals, Manchester United, whose supporters have been quick to point out that Marouane Fellaini received a three-match ban for elbowing Leicester’s Robert Huth in a match at the end of last season.

Aguero made headlines for less savoury reasons after appearing to elbow Winston Reid during the second half.

If Aguero is banned he could miss the Manchester derby on 10th September.

City manager Pep Guardiola insisted he did not see the incident, although he was philosophical about the prospect of his forward being sanctioned. The England winger has looked like a different player under the new regime, although Guardiola isn’t keen to take too much credit for the turnaround.

– Nolito has scored three and assisted two more in his first five games for Manchester City in all competitions.

Guardiola’s men continued to dominate at the Etihad Stadium, although Michail Antonio’s second headed goal in as many top-flight games threatened to tear up the script in the second half.

“I saw him exhausted and I saw him with problems”, said his manager, who gave Samir Nasri encouragement that the midfielder had a long-term future at the Etihad Stadium. He can play right, left, he is so dynamic, so aggressive with the ball and without the ball. He is so dynamic.

“I didn’t expect to play like this in this short time”.

“We did not start well and straight away they (City) had a couple of corners and then scored”, he said.

“But of course we are so pleased, so pleased about his spirit”. “No doubt about that”.
