Aguero pulls out of Argentina squad

Aguero, who has until 6pm tomorrow to respond to the charge, faces a three-match ban if found guilty.

Regardless of fitness, Aguero could miss the derby through suspension after he appeared to catch Winston Reid, the West Ham defender, in the throat with his elbow.

The Football Association will await Marriner’s report before deciding whether to take action against Aguero.

That means he would be suspended for the Manchester derby at Old Trafford on September 10.

Aguero will also be out for a Premier League clash against Bournemouth and an EFL Cup trip to Swansea City.

Agüero has until 6pm today to lodge an appeal, though given that the suspension has been applied retroactively – referee Andre Marriner apparently did not see the incident live, meaning it is an FA panel that has made the decision – it is hard to envisage the decision being overturned.

Aguero has already scored six times in four appearances this season and helped City to set the Premier League pace by taking nine points from a possible nine. It’s been confirmed that he suffered a calf muscle injury versus West Ham United.

Even if he isn’t charged by the FA, Aguero could still miss the top-of-the-table clash against United with a calf problem. Each member of the panel will review the footage and determine if they consider it a sending-off offense.

“I didn’t see [the incident] so I can not comment”, City manager Pep Guardiola said.

The off-the-ball incident, which occurred in the second half of City’s 3-1 win, was not seen by referee Andre Marriner or other officials during the game.
