Ahead of all-party team’s visit, teen killed in clashes in Kashmir

In Srinagar city, where authorities lifted the curfew on Monday, private cars and auto-rickshaws were seen on roads in and around the commercial hub of Lal Chowk.

MOre than 11,000 people – 7,000 civilians and 4,000 security persons – have been injured in the ongoing cycle of violence that started on July 9, a day after Hizbul Mujahideen commander Burhan Wani was killed by security forces.

A police spokesperson said an unruly mob attacked the security forces with stones at Nadihal village.

Mobs also torched the house of ruling Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Rajya Sabha member, Nazir Ahmad Laway in Chawalgam village in Kulgam district. The Army fired in the air to disperse the mob.

Meanwhile, the personnel of Indian police and paramilitary Central Reserve Police Force attacked the house of a senior photojournalist, Danish Ismail, in Batamaloo area of Srinagar, harassed the inmates and damaged the house.

He said Manzoor succumbed to injuries while being shifted to a hospital in Sopore town.

He said improvement in the situation across Kashmir prompted authorities to lift curfew. “With this curfew has now been lifted from entire Kashmir valley as no area in any district of Valley is under restrictions”, the Divisional Commissioner said.

He said increased movement of vehicular traffic and public was today witnessed in nearly all towns, major areas and Srinagar city as well.

According to Kashmir Media Service, the youth identified as Danish Manzoor was martyred when troops opened fire on protesters at Nadihal in Rafiabad area of Baramulla district. Similar clashes were reported from Qaimoh area of south Kashmir where over two dozen people were hurt. The reimposition comes after separatists extended their protest shutdown till September 8. Protests were also held at Sopore’s fruit market over accusations that security forces did not let sellers there conduct transactions early this morning.
