Ahead of French President’s visit, six suspected ISIS agents detained in Bengaluru

While 14 persons have been arrested so far in different parts of the country, the agency is said to be looking for 5 more persons in Hyderabad.

The arrests come in the wake of heightened security in the country during the Republic Day week.

The arrests follow the Delhi police operation a fortnight ago in which two al- Qaeda suspects Maulana Anzar and Shah Qasmi were arrested.

Six suspected terrorists were arrested in Karnataka in coordination with the state police, Home Minister G Parameshwara said. “At this point, it is not right to blame anyone when it comes to terrorism, and we should not politicize this”, Parameshwara told reporters.

Earlier this week, Special Cell of Delhi Police had arrested four suspected terrorists from Uttarakhand.

In a joint operation with Karnataka Police, the NIA picked up the four suspects from various locations between Thursday night and Friday morning, a senior Karnataka Police official said on condition of anonymity.

In the recent times, over a dozen terror suspects and ISIS sympathisers have been picked from various places in Karnataka including state capital Bengaluru.

“The ISIS threat is real”.

Mohammad Sirazudin, an executive of the Indian Oil Corporation, who was arrested in Jaipur in December 2015 for allegedly spreading ISIS activities online and trying to recruit Indian youths in the Middle-East terrorist group, was allegedly on the verge of turning into a “lone wolf”.
