Aileen Reid finishes triathlon in highly credible 21st place

US men have never medaled in the sport, and the women had previously won only a single medal, a bronze by Susan Williams in 2004.

Her greatest strength is her running speed.

Jane Linde, co-owner of the store designed for triathletes, said her family has known Zaferes (formerly Hursey) for years, primarily through her daughter Maura, who attended Syracuse University with Zaferes. Alistair passed his brother toward the finish line and won the gold, making him a back-to-back Olympics triathlon gold medalist.

Jorgensen came late to triathlon, a swimmer and runner at Wisconsin who was recruited to the sport by USA Triathlon. If Jenkins establishes a lead over Jorgensen in the swim, she’ll give everything to maintaining it during the bike leg, but may get caught on the run. The best attempt was made by Spirig, who gained a 30 meter edge on Lap 5 before the pack swallowed her back up. “Always keep on racing!'”

“I knew that I needed to be in a daily performance group where I was training basically with my direct competitors”, said Jorgensen.

Congrats to Jorgensen on her exciting win!

Few women are faster on their feet than Jorgensen, and so it proved here.

She finished 38th in the triathlon at the 2012 London Games after a flat tire on her bike.

On the first lap, Stanford broke to the lead, followed soon by Holland, Spirig, and Duffy as they charged up the big 61-meter hill hoping to make a gap. “There was nothing that was going to stop her these last four years”, Lemieux said. “I just felt like I didn’t have what it took, I’m not good enough”.

Jorgensen already has deals with Asics, Oakley and her former employer Ernst & Young and can count on many more to come. Great Britain’s Vicky Holland was third. Showing more emotion than she is known for, she finished in 1:56:16.

But on the bike leg, Spirig initiated her race plan.

Jorgensen skipped three of the 10 World Series races in 2015. Jorgensen was in 23rd place after the swim and started the bike race in 24th place after the transition. All three Americans-Katie Zaferes, Sarah True and Gwen Jorgensen-were within striking distance and all made that front group out of T1 and onto the bike.
