Air Bonsai Takes Zen Gardening To Hi-Tech Levels
The Air Bonsai has four designs, each carefully crafted according to the “monozukuri”, an ancient Japanese tradition. A startup based in Kyushu, Japan has developed a mechanism that lets bonsai trees levitate and spin endlessly, recalling the out-of-this-world bonsai concepts found in Hayao Miyazaki animations.

A new Kickstarter project, Air Bonsai, is offering the chance to have a levitating bonsai tree that uses a magnetic base to cause the effect. Similar to what you see with floating speakers, these plants use magnetic levitation in order to cause the tiny tree to float above a base. This ball has a spongy interior where you can plant your tree of choice.
The only issue if you live in the United States is that the plants are hard to be imported in the country. But they’re actually part of an $80,000 (£56,000) Kickstarter project to bring some anime magic to your home. The materials are hand crafted and you can plant just about anything in the little star, so long as its small. Some of them look like dainty planets with cratered surfaces. So if you fancy a floating cactus – go for it!
The ball floats two centimetres above its magnetic base and has a sponge insert for planting. You will have to water and take care of the plant regularly, as you would with any other plant.
If you are feeling very generous, then you can get a base, a Bonsai star, a tour of a Bonsai garden, a handmade cushion and a tour of the workshop, all for $10,000.

The magical Air Bonsai will set you back a cool $200 and and you need to pledge via Kickstarter to receive one. The floating bonsai tree combines perfectly the art with the technology and it can be yours for only $200.
