“I flew out and hit the wall, so I got damaged”, he said.
A “flight from hell” from China to Canada was diverted after heavy turbulence injured 21 passengers, including three children.
“The fellow sitting in front of me went flying up, hit the ceiling and came flying down”, he said.
Another passenger, Bing Feng, told the network she heard screaming similar to what one might hear on a rollercoaster. The plane was just going down like very straight, straightly, like, go down.
Air Canada claimed that an investigation is under progress, and teams have been assigned to help passengers affected by the sudden diversion of the flight.
Some passengers described waves of turbulence, but others said it wasn’t all that bad.
After the plane landed in Calgary just before 3:30 p.m., at least eight people were wheeled through the terminal on stretchers, some wearing neck braces, to 15 waiting ambulances. “You saw all the oxygen masks drop”.
Pottinger suggested airlines should be compelled to show passengers video footage of turbulent flights, similar to “the crash test dummies that got us anxious about cars and the lungs that got us anxious about smoking”.
Several passengers praised the 19 crew members’ professionalism throughout the incident.
“Safety is always our first priority and so any incident involving the safety of our passengers and crew is of utmost concern”, said Klaus Goersch.
Airlines are diligent about turning on the “fasten seatbelt” sign if turbulence is predicted, but sometimes it comes out of nowhere, and a seatbelt can only do so much, he said.

They will ask for the black box and conduct interviews with Air Canada staff and passengers.
