According to a statement issued by the Airline on Wednesday, the IndiGo flight 6E-813 en route Guwahati from Mumbai experienced Clear Air Turbulence (CAT) which can not be detected by weather radar, due to monsoon activity over the sub-continent on Tuesday.
As soon as 6E-813 gained height, the onboard anti-collision device triggered an alarm as another IndiGo flight, 6E-136, bound for Chennai from Guwahati was within a distance of 1,000 feet.
Immediately after landing, these four passengers along with the two cabin crew were administered with the necessary medical assistance. Due to unexpected turbulence the vertical separation reduced to 700 feet and flight crew immediately began to address the altitude deviation, at the very moment TCAS-RA advisory was generated. The incident occurred, apparently, after one of the planes faced air turbulence, with IndiGo confirming that four passengers in the plane “complained of giddiness” while two from the cabin crew had to be given first-aid. At the same instance another aircraft 6E-136 (Guwahati-Chennai) was crossing 6E-813.
