FAA spokesman Ian Gregor said in an email the Boeing 777 made its emergency landing without incident before dawn at Eareckson Air Station in Shemya, Alaska.
Officials say as of 7 o’clock this morning the Boeing 777 aircraft was safely on the ground and all passengers and crew were safe.
Cathay Pacific said they were working to obtain additional facts about the incident.
Shemya Island is at the western tip of the Aleutians.
The island base has a 10,000-foot runway, which was developed in the 1940s for bombing missions and repaved in 2010.
The plane was enroute to Los Angeles when it was diverted to a remote US military airport in Alaska’s Aleutian Islands on Wednesday after smoke began to fill the cabin, airline officials said.
