The spokesman, Lt. Col. Christopher Karns, said details are sketchy but that Stone is being treated in a hospital in the Sacramento area.

Police say a fight led to the stabbing and alcohol was likely a factor.

On Thursday he was in serious condition at a California hospital, having been stabbed again – this time during a night out with friends in an altercation for which he faces no criminal blame, officials say.

Stone was transported to UC Davis Medical Center with non-life threatening injuries. Stone is in stable condition Thursday, October 8, 2015, after being stabbed in Sacramento, Calif., according to an Air Force spokesman.

Update: The assault incident is not related to a terrorist act.

It was not immediately clear if anyone had been arrested in connection with the stabbing.

Alek Skarlatos, Spencer Stone, Anthony Sadler from the United States and UK national Chris Norman foiled a potential massacre on board a Thalys train in the northern French city of Arras in August by overpowering the gunman.

The assailants fled. Police said they’re looking for two Asian males who were wearing blue jeans and white T-shirts, and left in what’s believed to be a dark gray or black 2009-2012 Toyota Camry.

Stone said he was stabbed in the neck and thumb, which had to be reattached.

Stone suffered deep slash wounds as he helped to overpower a heavily-armed gunman, 25-year-old Moroccan Ayoub El Khazzani, in the attack on August.

Stone was briefly hospitalized in France for cuts the attacker inflicted on him.

Bernard said Stone was out with four friends when they got into a fight with another group of people. He received the Purple Heart and Airman’s Medal and it was announced last month that he would be promoted to staff sergeant.

He also tended to one of his fellow heroes, French-American Mark Moogalian.

The three met with President Obama last month, who thanked them for their courage and called them “the very best of America”. They were also awarded France’s highest honor by President Francois Hollande.
