Air France warns of drop in travel to France after attacks

CFO Pierre-Francois Riolacci said unit revenue fell by 5.6% in the second quarter, which he put down to the sluggish global economic recovery and “most of all the effect of the terror attacks that have struck Europe in recent quarters and which resumed with the Brussels attacks at the end of March”.

“For the following days, depending on the estimated number of cabin crew taking strike action, the flight schedule will be adapted and published the day before”, Air France said.

Air France is hoping to maintain more than 87% of flights on July 27, when its cabin crew is set to begin a walkout that is expected to last until August 2.

Unions representing about half of the strikers said last Friday the stoppage would go ahead after lengthy talks failed to bring a breakthrough on renewing a collective labour accord on rules, pay and promotions which expires in October.

In late June the new CEO of the Air France-KLM group, Jean-Marc Janaillac, warded off a pilots’ strike that would have been the second such stoppage during the Euro football tournament.

Last summer Air France flew an average of 1 000 flights a day, carrying some 140 000 passengers.
