Air India Technician Sucked Into Aircraft Engine At Mumbai Airport, Dies

A member of Air India’s ground crew has been sucked in to an aircraft’s engine and killed instantly.

The Times of India, quoting Air India sources, reported that the accident occurred when the co-pilot started the engine at the Chhatrapati Shivaji airport.

The incident was a rare one and indicates to the act of negligence which might have been the reason for the technician’s death.

The airline has ordered an investigation into the incident, the Times of India reports.

The incident took place at bay No. 28 around 8.40 p.m. when a flight was being readied for departure. “We are deeply saddened and regret the tragic incident”. It was delayed by an hour due to the incident.

Mr Lohani expressed his condolences to the family. It was not immediately clear how the technician came so perilously close to the aircraft at that time.

Air India bosses are yet to say how many people were on board the plane and whether any passengers had witnessed the incident.
