Despite the sinister actions of North Korea’s despotic leader, the organisers of the festival said it was being held “in the name of peace and friendship through aviation”.
North Korean leaders appeared in no mood to ratify any time soon, with Foreign Minister Ri Yong Ho vowing his country will expand its nuclear capabilities in defiance of multiple U.N. Security Council resolutions. But opposition remains strong, although advocates say that computer modeling and other cutting edge techniques make real testing obsolete.
Shortly after that fifth nuclear test, South Korea began talking up a plan called KMPR, for “Korea Massive Punishment and Retaliation”, which emphasized wiping out the North Korean leadership if Pyongyang attacks. The U.S. State Department announced it will spend $2.65 million to improve North Korea human rights and to increase the flow of information into the country.
Yung accused North Korea s government of engaging in a “fanatical and reckless pursuit” of nuclear and missile programs that had reduced the country to a wasteland of poverty and oppression.
“It is crystal clear that North Korea, as a serial offender, has manifestly failed to uphold its pledge to abide by the obligations in the U.N. Charter, particularly to accept and carry out the decisions of the Security Council”, Yun said.
