An American Airlines co-pilot was detained this morning under suspicion that he was drunk, according to the Federal Aviation Administration. The flight which was scheduled to take off at 7 a.m. for Philadelphia was canceled. “We apologise to our customers for the disruption to their travel plans”. Out of respect for this employee’s privacy, we will not have further details to release.

The co-pilot, in his early 50s and from Pennsylvania, exhibited behavior that led to suspicion he might have been drinking while going through crew checks with the Transportation Security Administration, said Michael Conway, airport director for public affairs.

The co-pilot’s name has not yet been released.

The pilot was given a breathalyzer test – which he reportedly failed – and was taken in by police where he failed another breathalyzer, according to the news station.

He was arrested and determined to be over the limit for a pilot, Conway said.

There’s one thing you don’t want your pilot to be, and that’s drunk.
