Cabin crew members being are forced into overhead lockers on passenger planes in a freaky “ritual”, according to Chinese social media.
A few photos were also posted showing stewardesses curling up in the luggage compartment with hands covering their faces. The controversial photos included a post explaining that the cabin crew for Kunming Airlines, headquartered in the Yunnan province in southwest China, was, “forced into lockers by security staff upon completing 30 to 50 hours of service” as part of an “industry ritual”, BBC reported Tuesday.
As the images went viral, state broadcaster CCTV News reported that Kunming Airlines had ignored numerous complaints by employees over the issue, saying that although many were annoyed by the ritual, they went through it out of fear of being ostracised by colleagues as “asocial” and “cocky”. It is prevalent among other foreign airline companies.

On one occasion, a girl was forced into a locker though she was in bad shape and almost fell out.
A Chinese airline has promised to stop bullying by members of its staff.

A simple search of #overheadbin on Instagram finds over 490 posts, mainly of flight attendants. Nearly all the new female flight attendant is pushed into the overhead bin, after they complete their first 30-to-50 hours of flight service.
