Airline technology firm Sabre investigating computer breach

Hackers linked to China have breached the Sabre network, Bloomberg reported Friday, citing anonymous officials who are familiar with federal investigations into the matter.

Sabre Corp., which processes reservations for hundreds of airlines and thousands of hotels, confirmed its systems were breached recently, and American Airlines Group Inc, . the world’s biggest air carrier, said it is investigating whether hackers had entered its computers, Bloomberg reported Friday. In May or early June this year, United Continental Holdings Inc (NYSE:UAL) was the target for the same group.

When taken together, the hacks amount to an extensive collection of information on millions of government employees and contractors, including details on background checks and medical histories. A authorities might additionally monitor the journey of U.S. officers and staff to detect army or intelligence operations, or examine their actions with these of its personal residents.

Sabre processes 2 billion transactions every day, it says, affecting a billion travelers every year.

Sabre is a former subsidiary of American’s parent company, AMR Corporation. American and Sabre began contracting with outside experts to conduct the probe within the last month, said the people with knowledge of the inquiry.

A large-scale hack attack recently hit the U.S.travel industry.

American, however, has found no sign of a breach so far, it says. “When one of our partners has communicated a breach, we redouble our efforts and bring in more cybersecurity experts to investigate our systems”.

“We are not aware that this incident has compromised sensitive protected information, such as credit card data or personally identifiable information, but our investigation is ongoing”, Sabre said in a statement. He said that everyone should know what the hackers are doing. The Chinese embassy spokesman in Washington Zhu Haiquan outrightly refuted the allegations.
