At Washington Dulles, for example, 40% of Sunday’s flights and 15% of Monday’s schedule had already been canceled before 5 p.m. on Saturday.

The number of cancelations for all airlines on Monday is 320, but FlightAware says that is sure to rise.
The bulk of Saturday’s 4,459 cancelations were at airports in the New York City and Washington, D.C., metro areas, according to flight tracking service FlightAware. Sunday’s cancellation tally of 2,780 flights seemed likely to grow.
The Metropolitan Washington Airports Authority announced today the runways at Reagan National and Dulles International are expected to remain closed through Sunday, Jan. 24. The airline is a founding member of Star Alliance, which provides service to 192 countries via 28 member airlines. The airports included vary by airline but include some cities in Kentucky, Tennessee and West Virginia all the way up the coast to New Hampshire and MA.
The tally since Friday of cancelled flights now tops 10,000.
It is unclear if Sunday’s United Airlines flight to NY will depart Scottish tarmac as planned.
At Glasgow Airport, the one daily flight leaving the airport on Saturday for NY was cancelled on Friday ahead of the weather system hitting the east coast. That is more than 60 percent of the day’s scheduled outgoing flights.
Amtrak has also canceled or cut back on service. Several trains scheduled to depart Washington for New York City were canceled, as was service from Washington to stations in Virginia and the Southeast, according to Amtrak’s website.
Passengers are recommended to contact their airline directly for flight status information and to rebook flights if necessary. Friday saw 3,100 cancellations, most of which were made by airlines a day in advance.

“It’s a domino effect with the airline industry so there’s a good chance with the ongoing weather that they’re expect through the weekend that we’ll see more cancellations here in Austin”, Austin-Bergstrom International Airport spokesman Jason Zielinski tells KEYE-TV of Austin.
