Saudi airstrikes against Yemeni cities have been a daily occurrence over the past several months, but seem to be escalating greatly today, with a series of strikes leaving 169 people, mostly civilians killed nationwide in the attacks. In March, a Saudi-led and U.S.-backed coalition began launching airstrikes against the rebels and their allies.

They said that 10 of the dead were Houthis while the rest were civilians shopping at an adjacent popular market.

The Houthi-run agency said 42 people in all had died in Saudi-led strikes across the country Monday.

AFP couldn’t affirm if the casualties have been all civilians, and there was no quick rationalization from the coalition management in Saudi Arabia.

“We are now in consultations for guarantees to ensure the success of the truce”, Hadi spokesman Rajeh Badi told Reuters.

Upwards of 2,800 people have been killed in Yemen since March, according to United Nations figures.
