A fragile ceasefire in Syria has been declared over.
Centcom said the coalition had struck the area in the past, and that its members had “earlier informed Russian counterparts of the upcoming strike”.
Moadamiyat Al Sham mayor Bassam Karbuj said about 7,000 food parcels were distributed and that the army would take full control of the town once remaining rebels are bussed out “in the coming days”.
Activists and rebel groups also accused the government of violating the agreement. “There is no hope of aid being delivered now”.
Syria’s weeklong ceasefire, brokered by the USA and Russian Federation, was in any case in growing doubt amid claims of repeated violations by both sides.
“We have not had seven days of calm and of delivery of humanitarian goods”, Kerry told reporters on the sidelines of the U.N. General Assembly.
The US military has not confirmed the strikes against the Syrian troops but has suggested it was carrying out a raid against Islamic State (Isis) fighters in eastern Syria.
Kerry also said it was important to set up the Joint Implementation Center in order to prevent the “terrible thing that happened yesterday, that we all acknowledge and regret but it happens when you have conflict”.
President Bashar al-Assad on Monday accused the U.S. of “flagrant aggression” for the attack on its forces in Deir Ezzor.
Assad further underlined the importance of the support provided by Iran, Russia, and other friendly countries in bolstering the steadfastness of the Syrian people in the face of the terrorists. The Pentagon admitted it may have hit Syrian troops but said it had been tracking an ISIS position there. Britain, Denmark and Australia have since acknowledged that their planes took part in the airstrike – which Moscow says killed at least 62 Syrian soldiers.
Russia’s defence ministry appeared to bury the truce, saying rebel violations made it “pointless” for government troops to uphold it.
The Syrian government forces have in fact also repeatedly been accused of violating the truce. But the strike underscored just how tricky it has become to coordinate attacks between coalition forces, Russia, Syria, and rebels-each of whom is pursuing their own goals in the region. Russian Federation called for an emergency closed door security council meeting with the United Nations to discuss the incident, accusing the US-led coalition of endangering Syria.
The strike has threatened an already fragile USA – and Russia-brokered cease-fire that has largely held despite dozens of alleged violations on both sides.
Kerry said Syrian President Bashar al-Assad.an ally of Russia’s, has continued “indiscriminate” bombing and is “the single biggest blockade” for Syrians desperate for humanitarian aid. The station said the airstrikes targeted IS positions in areas such as the Tharda Mountain, which overlooks the airport of the city of Deir el-Zour.
A mistaken air raid by the USA -led coalition also killed 62 Syrian soldiers. Australian and Danish warplanes were involved in that attack on Syrian army positions. It said the air strikes were “on objective and planned in advance”, and killed dozens of Syrian soldiers.
Syria called Saturday’s US-led strikes on the outskirts of the eastern city of Deir Az Zor a “dangerous and blatant aggression against the Syrian Arab Republic and its army”.
Uncertainties are prevailing about the truce, which is now in its seventh day.
For its part, the Syrian army, which endorsed the U.S. -Russia deal, had said in a statement that the cease-fire would end at midnight Sunday.
A senior military source in Damascus told AFP that the truce would expire later Monday at 7:00 pm (1600 GMT) if no extension was announced.
Both convoys were still sitting at the Turkey-Syria border, where they have been for nearly a week, United Nations spokesman Jens Laerke said.
French Foreign Minister Jean-Marc Ayrault said that despite the strikes on the Syrians, Syrian government forces were principally behind the truce violations.

Russia’s UN ambassador, Vitaly Churkin, also said the strike could be evidence of USA support for the Islamic State and an Al Qaeda affiliate fighting the Syrian government, which the United States has sought to help oust.
Russian Federation says the attack killed at least 62 Syrian troops fighting Islamic State and wounded 100 more.

One Turkish soldier and six Syrian rebels were wounded on Sunday in clashes with Islamic State near the Syrian border town of al-Rai as Turkey-backed Syrian rebels pushed south towards the IS-held town of al-Bab, Turkey’s Dogan News agency reported. Gen. Igor Konashenkov said in an emailed statement that both “terrorists and the opposition” are using the truce to “boost their forces and prepare for renewed hostilities”.
