“Jio looks forward to co-operation and working together with the industry to achieve the vision of Digital India”.
Aditya-Birla telecom arm, Idea lost almost Rs 3000 crore in market capitalisation yesterday in less than hour since Ambani began outlining charges and others features for Reliance Jio customers.
The pricing, which analysts are terming as a “knockout punch” are estimated to be as low as one-tenth of the prevailing data rates.
Average data prices would be around INR 50 per GB, which would be amongst the lowest in the world.
The chair person Mukesh Ambani is keen on helping those young minds who are really interested to create the “business of future”.
Ambani talked about how telcos are obligated to extend interconnect capacity to Jio for its voice services and how a fair competition will help the industry grow. This is unprecedented and signals a shift in the Indian telecom sector that data is the new voice.
The company is offering a slew of services including streaming music, high-definition video streaming and digital money payments.
The company’s network will encompass 18,000 cities and towns and there are plans to cover nearly 90 percent of the country’s population by March next year.
In addition to free mobile voice calls with zero roaming charges, Jio will offer customers 6,000 films, 2.8 million songs and thousands of magazines and newspapers. By March 2017, we will cover 90% of India’s population.

He warned that existing operators will face a lot of pain over the next 12-18 months as there will be “massive disruptions” from Jio’s formal launch. We expect and hope that following commencement of services by Jio, the incumbent operators would fulfil their obligations to provide adequate interconnection and MNP facility.
