Gardaí from the Drugs and Organised Crime Bureau stopped and searched a vehicle in Tallaght yesterday evening as part of an ongoing investigation into gangland crime. They have not yet indicated how they will plead.

Gardai have seized heroin and cocaine with a street value of €3m, along with a number of firearms.

Mr Burnell was remanded in custody with consent to bail, subject to strict conditions.

Ms Horan said Mr Burnell was living with his wife and two young children and working with his father.

Mr Burnell must put forward €20,000 himself, and his father has offered €10,000 as an independent surety, subject to approval of the court.

However, Judge John Coughlan chose to grant bail for the married father of two, and set it at €30,000.
