Mulayam Singh then replaced Akhilesh Yadav as the state party chief with Shivpal Yadav. The sources said he would not be involved in candidate selection although he had “desperately” sought a role in the process.

Mulayam Singh finally mediated in the ongoing war of supremacy within the party and asked Akhilesh Yadav to roll back his decisions against Shivpal Yadav and Prajapati.

Addressing party workers, Shivpal said that as elections are near, everyone should gear up to strengthen the party to form majority government.

The party men had gathered in his support since last night after he submitted his resignation to Mulayam as ruling Samajwadi Party’s Uttar Pradesh unit head and as a minister in the cabinet of nephew Akhilesh.

He also clarified that he only had tea at the residence of his uncle and not lunch as reported by a section of the media. Mulayam has also stated categorically that there would be no split in the Samajwadi Party as long as he is alive.

Earlier, the whole day was passed with several speculations while groups of youth brigade of samajwadi party hold aggressive demonstrations in favors of their leaders.

The chief minister rubbished the reports that he is behind the feud in the family saying, “It’s a fight for the chair”. If a good person asks for the CM’s post, I am ready to give it up. “It will be my “pariskha” (test) in elections”.

Another important outcome of the resolution on Friday was the declaration by the Chief Minister that “outsiders”, a term used for Rajya Sabha MP Amar Singh who is known to have fomented the Yadav family dispute, will be kept out of family affairs. The Yadav chieftain also ruled out any major differences between Shivpal, Ram Gopal and Akhilesh Yadav. “I told him how to prepare for the elections”, he said.

Singh lashed out at his son, saying he was humiliated when the party won just five seats in 2014 when Akhilesh was the CM, adding, “Had I not agreed, he would have not become the CM ever”.

After meeting Mulayam, Shivpal said, “I have spoken to Netaji and put my views in front of him”.

More than two dozen Samajwadi Party legislators and Uttar Pradesh assembly Speaker Mata Prasad Pandey met Shivpal Yadav.

When we hear the word psychopath we naturally think of serial killers and violent criminals. We will not let the party be weakened.

Supporters of both the camps clapped and raised slogans near the Samajwadi Party office. The SP supremo directly went to the auditorium where the supporters of his son Akhilesh were shouting slogans, demanding that he be reinstated as the party’s state unit president.
